Let's first understand what is a steel wire rope and what is a steel strip?

Steel wire rope is composed of rope strands, rope strands, and rope core. Elevator steel wire rope is made by twisting a single rope strand around the rope core in a spiral shape. The composite steel strip is wrapped with a new type of wear-resistant material polyurethane, which eliminates grease lubrication, has a longer lifespan, and is green and environmentally friendly.

After understanding the structure, we will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the two products.

1、 The service life and normal use are not a big problem, but we have said that there is a rope core inside the steel wire rope, which is filled with lubricant. The main function of lubricants is to reduce friction between steel wires and rope strands. Another function is to prevent rust and corrosion of the steel wire rope. If the core of the rope dries out, the steel wire rope of the elevator will face the risk of wear and rust. If it rusts, it needs to be replaced, and if one steel wire rope has problems, it also means that all steel wire ropes need to be replaced because the elastic elongation of new and old steel wire ropes is different. Mixing new and old ropes can cause uneven force on the steel wire rope, accelerate the failure process of the steel wire rope, and affect the safe operation of the elevator.

The advantage of steel strip is to avoid rusting, as the outer layer of the steel strip is polyurethane, and the steel wire rope cannot directly come into contact with air. Moreover, according to the characteristics of polyurethane, the service life of the steel strip is indeed longer than that of the steel wire rope.

2、 Many people say that the comfort and quietness of a steel belt ride are superior to that of a steel wire rope. However, from a personal perspective, the difference between the two is not significant. Even if professionals take an elevator, it is difficult to determine whether the elevator is using a steel wire rope or a steel belt based on the operating effect.

3、 The cost can be divided into two categories: initial installation cost and after-sales cost. From the perspective of initial installation cost, as the material price of steel strips is higher than that of steel wire ropes, the price of elevator equipment equipped with steel strips is generally higher than that of equipment equipped with steel wire ropes.

From the perspective of after-sales costs, due to the low floor of the villa elevator, the cost of replacing the steel wire rope or steel strip is labor cost. The difference between the two is not significant, but in terms of service life, the service life of the steel strip is better than that of the steel wire rope. In terms of replacement frequency, the steel wire rope does not have much advantage.

In summary, whether choosing steel wire rope or steel strip, from a safety perspective, there is no problem. The difference lies in the initial installation cost and service life. If the initial installation cost is the same, I personally recommend steel strip.
